About this Department

The International Joint Department of Food Science and Technology between Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Gifu University implements the program called "International Joint Master's Program in Food Science and Technology between Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Gifu University." This program aims to nurture highly skilled professionals in food and related industries with the fundamental knowledge and skills in food science and technology, design thinking as well as a global mindset (able to adapt to different cultures and collaborate with global partners). The program is designed to foster leaders of the future in food and related industries in the North-eastern region in India and the Tokai Region (located central part of Japan), who can seek solutions for sustainable society, and make optimal utilization of resources possible for the benefit of both regions.

What is International Joint Department?

The International Joint Department implements a Joint Degree (JD) program whereby Japanese and oversea partner university jointly design and organize curricula by combining the strengths of both universities. Students are registered at both universities and stay for a certain period at either university to complete their coursework and undertake dissertation research work at the respective university. Students can complete the program without any extension of study time. A single academic degree is jointly conferred to the students who have completed JD programs.

About Indian Institutes of Technology Guwahati

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are autonomous public institutes of higher education in India, and were established to develop science and technology in India. The Indian Institutes of Technology Guwahati (IITG), the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The academic program of IITG commenced in 1995. At present, the Institute has eleven departments and five inter-disciplinary academic centers covering all the major engineering, science and humanities disciplines, offering B. Tech., B. Des., M. A., M. Des., M. Tech., M. Sc. and PhD programs. IITG has been building up the world class infrastructure for carrying out advanced research, and has been equipped with state-of-the-art scientific and engineering instruments.
