The thing which is being learned now, the strong point by the graduate school and future dream
Coming to Gifu University
When I was an undergraduate student in Brawijaya University, I had been motivated to go abroad for my master degree in analytical chemistry. I wanted to learn from expert and passionate professor in their field. Due in part to my professor in Brawijaya University, expand my knowledge in Japan had always been one of my dream. I applied Advance Globalization Program in Gifu University, considering it is an English program offered by the university, they have a professor who work in the same field as my previous research and the university is located at rural area which is very calm and refreshing.
My family in Gifu and our projects
Now, I am a member of Professor Lim's laboratory. Speaking of my lab, there are 15 students in my lab today, and 10 of us are from overseas. I can discuss everything in English with the other international researcher. With my Japanese friends, I use English and try to apply my Japanese little by little now. Even though in the beginning I found my Japanese mates were very shy, but they are really supportive and funny, they help me in research, Japanese study as well as daily life.
My research focus on creating a new efficient and environmental friendly monolith material for analysis needs. With an efficient method, the analysis time become shorter with high resolution. I spend most of my days conducting experiments to make these monolith materials. I begin by making organic polymer monolith which will be modified by certain chiral compound to equip abilities to separate the racemic compounds in the analyte. I then evaluate the separation ability of these material by liquid chromatography and analyze the structure using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to obtain the pores and skeleton size.
Broaden my horizons by joining Graduate School of Natural Science
Joining Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology of Gifu University disclosed me to so many opportunity to expand my knowledge, experience new cultures and broaden my horizons. The English-based classes offered by the Graduated School of Natural Science and technology have been helped me to understand the material better. In the first year, I got an opportunity to visit various big companies in Gifu and Nagoya. I learned how to expand our idea to reach our dream, never been easy and need hard work. I also got an opportunity to do a short internship in Kakamigahara waste water treatment and drinking water treatment in Minokamo city. It broaden my knowledge how to manage the environment and people.
My stay in Gifu, adapting with the culture here, has also changed me. Japanese are hardworking, polite and always thankful for every single small help. Studying under Japan University also has trained me to be discipline, become late means do not appreciate and disrupt the ongoing activity. I am grateful to be part of this family and always indebted to academic office and GPO staff who made my stay and study live here smooth and memorable.
Change the world
After finishing my Master's studies, I will continue to pursue a PhD degree in the Graduate School of Engineering. After I graduate from Gifu University, I want to be a great lecturer and educator as my professor in my country. I want to bring that I have gotten during my study here to my country. Besides the knowledge, I want to be the role model of the hard work, discipline and thankful character for my people.
