Department of Life Science and Chemistry

The Department of Life Science and Chemistry is designed to develop human resources who contribute to people's well-being through the advancement of life sciences and chemistry. The department also aims to produce highly specialized professionals and researchers who can improve the quality of life, protect the environment, maintain and promote people's health and welfare. We expect such personnel could take the lead in the fields of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, foods, the environment, or work as public servants who possess comprehensive views on the most advanced life sciences and technology.

Department of Agricultural and Environmental Science

In the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Science, we pursue scientific principles governing biological hierarchies and their environment from microscopic viewpoints such as "molecular design techniques" to macroscopic perspectives which include how to achieve sustainable food production and succeed in biological resource conservation to counter the ongoing global warming. We aim to develop highly specialized professionals who could contribute to people's well-being through their expertise and knowledge with a special emphasis on sustainable biological production and conservation-restoration of ecosystems

Department of Agricultural and Environmental Science

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering aims to build a safe and comfortable society by giving full consideration to natural and social environments. Students study a broad range of subjects for civil engineering to become professionals in planning, designing, construction, and maintenance of social infrastructures. Achieving harmony with nature, enhancing the levels of disaster control and prevention, and realization of sustainable society are all important goals for students to meet by studying at the department.

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Department of Materials Science and Processing

Major objective of the Department of Materials Science and Processing is to foster highly specialized professionals who could bring about technological innovations in manufacturing. Students attend courses with materials chemistry and mechanical engineering combined. Courses include chemical engineering, fundamentals of chemistry, nano-chemistry, design mechanics, manufacturing technology, computer-aided design. In parallel with these courses, the department promotes comprehensive educational research that covers from material development to commercialization. By engaging in research activities, students acquire a set of skills to tackle issues in the fields of material and manufacturing engineering from macro and micro perspectives.

International Joint Department of Food Science and Technology

The International Joint Department of Food Science and Technology between Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Gifu University implements the program called "International Joint Master's Program in Food Science and Technology between Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Gifu University." It aims to nurture highly skilled professionals in food and other related businesses and industries, By completing the program, students acquire the fundamental knowledge and academic skills in food sciences and technology, design thinking, as well as develop a global mindset (global mindset: capable of adapting to different cultures, and collaborating with global partners). The program is also designed to foster leaders of the future in food and related industries in the North-eastern region in India and the Tokai Region (located the central part of Japan), who could seek solutions for sustainable society, and make optimal utilization of resources possible for the benefit of both regions.
