The thing which is being learned now, the strong point by the graduate school and future dream

My name is Luthfan Nur Habibi, and right now, I am studying precision agriculture topics under the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology (GNST), Gifu University. Since an undergraduate student at Sebelas Maret University, Indonesia, I have the motivation to learn about precision agriculture because this management practice has not been widely applied in Indonesia. Indonesia has the potential in agriculture with its fertile land, but the lack of human resources and existing technology makes Indonesia unable to fulfill its own food security. It is become my responsibility as a Bachelor of Agriculture to advance Indonesian agriculture.

After completing my undergraduate study, I applied Advance Globalization Program (AGP) at Gifu University to continue my master course study. This program is an English-based master course study under the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology. Now, I have become a member of Crop Science Laboratory under Tanaka Takashi-Sensei as my supervisor. I am the only overseas student in this lab, so it was hard at first since I could not speak Japanese language, but all my laboratory friends are really kind and always helping me. Now I have lived in Japan for more than one year and studied Japanese, so it is easier for me to communicate with my Japanese friends.

At Gifu University, I focus on developing a prescription map for specific management practices of soybean cultivation to increase yield production. I utilize high advanced technology such as unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and machine learning-based algorithms to estimate soybean plant density over the fields. This monitoring is essential to understand the crop's spatial variability in the fields; thus, we can prepare a management practice that can improve yield performance. Learning this topic is not that simple since this knowledge is new for me, but I am always motivated to study this topic.

It is unfortunate that this year, there is a pandemic caused by COVID-19. This condition prevents me from participating in a number of events, like academic conferences, internships, and local events that are usually held annually. However, studying in Japan was my biggest dream since I was a child, so I am still grateful that I got the opportunity to study here. Japanese culture has made me a better person, disciplined, hardworking, and always struggle to achieve my dreams. I will continue to pursue a Ph.D. degree in the Graduate School of Agricultural Science (UGSAS) Gifu University after finishing the master course study. My purpose is to become a lecturer and a researcher in Indonesia to teach other people about all the knowledge I have gained during my study and contribute to Indonesia education.
